Blog Phenomenon

Fifteen years later, blogging have been a way of voicing out one's opinion and individuality in the world wide web. It's been successful as until now it is the most widely used form of information dissemination besides e-mails, forum and messengers. The craze have caught on immensely that it already competed with the major types of mainstream media such as broadcast and print.

However, do you know whom do we owe this wonderful tool of communication? We owe them to these people such as Brian E. Redman who in year 1983 created his mod.ber which is like a serial journal publishing style and features links interesting and cool places on the net. While Justin Hall blogged his life as a student at Swarthmore College in 1994. But it was Steve Gibson who earned the first paycheck from Ritual Entertainment in 1997 from his blogging. The term "weblog" was coined by John Barger but was later modified by Peter Merholz into "blog" by breaking the word into a phrase "we blog".

Of course drawbacks such as cases of bloggers settling cases in courts for invasion of privacy, infringement, defamation, libel suits just to name a few are inevitable. A blogger's code of conduct proposal was made by Tim O' Reilly, click on the link to give you an idea.

The power of thinking: self-appreciation

"I need to turn down the volume in my life! This will enable me to appreciate the smaller things, like a friend's laugh or a perfect cup of coffee. There's no need for me to be the center of the action today. I'll just be the center of my own world."

The truth is unforgiving but will set you free.

The Boys of St. Vincent

I saw this wonderful docudrama and I thought sharing it with you.

The Boys of St. vincent is based on real events that occurred in Newfoundland, Canada. The film is made in two parts: (1) relayed the abuses, physical and sexual, that the brothers have inflicted to the orphans and (2) sums up the trial of the accused and the hardships of grown-up sexualy abused children.

This made-for-television movie asks the audience to emphatize with a phedophile as a human being and not merely pervert which made it very sensational also as it has been highly condemned by both the Catholic Church and the Newfoundland government.

The abuser Lavin played by Henry Czerny

have shown a conflicting side of a person's character. The fact that he is a handsome, intelligent and charismatic man but somewhat twisted in the eyes of Kevin(Johnny Morina),

the abused kid. Kevin Reevey is one of the abused children that the movie have focused on all through out the film. He barely speaks but exhudes youthfulness although he was suffering a lot in that time. In part 2, he (Sebastian Spence)

became a very troubled man as he is unable to deal with his past. His anxieties have even meddled his relationship with his girl.

There's also the story of the brothers Stephen (David Hewlett) and Brian (Timothy Webber) Lunney. They were separated as the older have chosen to leave the orphanage but promised to come back for his younger brother. Fate did not let him keep his promised. They met each other again in the second part of the movie, now Brian is happily married while Stephen have turned to drugs to drown his pastlife. He comitted suicide after the defense lawyer have revealed that he himself have abused a child when he was a teenager. His death have moved Reevey to finally give his side of the story. Setting him free from anxiety and depression.

Jesus to Michael

The Artist

George Michael is a household name in the British Music Industry. For the past 2 decades he was domineering the radio waves from being a part of a duo Wham then as a solo artist. But his rise to fame was not a smooth one, as he met a lot of problems with record producing labels such as Sony. He struggled against them as he cannot take the pressure of being someone different in the face of his many fans. Eventually he came out of the closet in 1996, but was in an established relationship since 1991 with Anselmo Feleppa to whom he dedicates the song am featuring here "Jesus to a Child." He kept his homosexuality secret because of his ailing mother with the fear of the impact it would do her. Eventhough, he was haunted by the papparazzi everytime he will be en flagrante delicto being himself.

I've learned that he's staging a come back in the industry. Can't wait what bomb would he explode this time after the last bout he had with the authorities about a fat guy he had engaged sex with. Could he be cooking another song like "Outside" that he penned to mock the controversy he was with a policeman before.

The Song

Kindness in your eyes I guess you heard me cry
You smiled at me Like Jesus to a child I’m blessed I know
Heaven sent and heaven stole
You smiled at meLike Jesus to a child
And what have I learned
From all this pain
I thought I’d never feel the same
About anyone or anything again
But now I know

Chorus:
When you find love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight
Sadness in my eyes
No one guessed, well no one tried
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
Loveless and cold
With your last breathyou saved my soul
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned
From all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those tears
Then just when it began
He took your love away
But I still say

Chorus
So the words you could not say
I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for tow
For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be ... my love
Well I’ve been loved
So I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed is always by my side
Oh the lover I still miss ... was Jesus to a child

DR on my lens - Cradle of Technology

Although it's a bit late compared with the other Developing Countries of the world, Dominican Republic boast of their only science and technology institute, if not, one that is credible enough to earn its name;

Instituto de Tecnologico de Las Americas or ITLA. Situated near Parque Cibernetico de Santo Domingo where I presently work.

The institute offers Information Technology, Mechatronic and Multimedia courses. Since it boasts of high-tech facility it is one of the most expensive schools in the country and many of the students come from a well-to-do family.

In a country where most of the time the elders hold the power to rule, it is a joy to see that these kids are growing up with the sense of the importance of science and technology in their lives. And think that is not just a subject matter but a way of life. Maybe someday they will grow up as the powers-that-be and change their country's laid back ways. Realize that the world does not only revolve on them that they should also have to keep up with it's demand of globalization.

The power of thinking: spontaneity

"I don't need to know every single detail before I get involved in something new. And its much better if I don't know too much ahead of time. Too many details would confuse me, overwhelm me, or give me reasons to back out of something that I should dive right into. I'll grab all of of my spontaneous impulses and take that leap of faith. All signs indicate that I will land squarely on my feet."

First of all, please yourself!

Actually in the blogosphere there's an unwritten mandate, that is, write whatever pleases you. READ ALOUD: write whatever pleases you.

You are not writing for the sake of being read or to be criticized. You write because you just want to share things about you and your world around to others. Now it's up to them, your readers, if they would agree or disagree with you. I've yet to find a writer who could persuade everyone to just do the former solely.

Autografication, my fellow blogger Quentin Xavier from OZ pretty sums up what I am trying to convey here. He's not limiting himself to a particular topic, which is why he's a prolific blogger. He blogs about almost everything. Creativity stems up from having freedom and from thinking out-of-the box more often if not always. Just imagine the world if everybody thinks and behaves the same. It would be oh-so-boring monotonous you'll just cut your throat yourself than live.

Memorable dreams

I'd like to share you some of my unforgettable dreams I had them when I was growing up and also of the most recent ones. All of them baffles me up to this day, and I am still clueless what's their meaning.

According to Wikipedia dreams consists of images, thoughts and feelings experienced while asleep. Their contents and/or purpose are poorly understood, but until now have been a topic of speculation and interest since the very beginning.

(1) Flying contagious superhero

I dreamt of being a caped crusader with the ability to fly and when I touch bystanders they're immediately transformed into my clone and followed me flying all over the city. According to a website I found, flying is an expression of our desire to break free of restrictions and limitations. A desire to be free and above all difficulties and the desire to dominate and be above others. It makes sense because during that time in my life I was not that out to my family yet.

(2) My own wake

It's eerie to dream about a wake when the one inside the coffin is you. The dream starts with me walking in a throng of mourners wearing the black mourning clothes and as I pass by them they turn to me as if they can see me but with no expression at all. Actually the faces of the people were unknown to me but later on in my life I got to know them one by one and remembered that I saw them in this dream. If the meaning of this dream is an end to one thing and a beginning of another it is safe to assume it is also related to my coming out.

(3) Going to work naked

I also had this freakish dream most recently where I went to work (imagine this!!!) on the buff. It started without a shirt first, then the next day my pants were off and finally with only my hand covering my thingie. Although I didn't minded even though my neighbors were looking at me only in my birthday suit. The dream analysis said that this is an expression of my unwillingness to let people see the "real" me and that unconsciously encouraging me to become more open with my feelings and more accessible emotionally. To which I say it's next to impossible since here in DR they're a little bigoted in these sort of stuffs and I'm not about to jeopardize my position if I come out to them.

The power of thinking: helpful

"Get your point across and connect the dots. Speak their language and come to their aid and do some simple explaining. Gratitude gives people a long memory. If you continue coming to people's aid today, you will be reaping huge rewards for a long time to come."

A Green Apple a day, keeps the bigots away

Words can wound someone more than a sword itself. It can be used as a powerful weapon. The hurt it impales never ceases not until erased by another. That's how powerful it is.

Now, imagine a world without a freedom of speech. A world without words. It's utterly unimaginable. Would you agree to that?

Such is the blog author of 'Berdeng Mansanas' who willfully crafts words into expressing what his thoughts are. A true writer in heart never fails to turn the most mundane topic into a wonderful and evocative pieces of art.

100th Post

I am proud that I have reached 100th post albeit the time constraints I have experienced lately. So it is rightful to extend my gratitude to those bloggers and visitors who may have added me in their list or graced my humble blog more than once.

The number 100 has a conjunctive meaning of individuality and aggressive initiation of effort toward a goal and understanding by experience and the use of reasoning. All of which have been and until now the backbone of all the authored posts. The goal is very simple as it is to serve as a storehouse of information for the community. To share my experience so that others may understand what they're going through. And lastly, to solicit reasoning from the readers as to expound what could have caused these situations in their lives.

The number also signifies a single step on the road of our acceptance. A small step. But what is important here is that we have braved that step and will never falter with the succeeding ones even though we still have a long way to go.

The power of thinking: effort and reward

"I need to see the direct relationship between effort and reward. So if I wasn't expecting much, I won't invest much. If I think there's a chance for a real success, I will go ahead and give it all I've got."

Forgetful me

This video reminded me of something I was before, a BITCH without a cause;

It's true that sometimes we go ballistic over something that we ourselves is at fault. I remember about getting mad at the people I live with because I can't find my book. It was the exam week and I have not even open a single page of that book . I am a chronic crammer. I was shouting at everybody and was so pissed off I nearly broke up with my ex. With the fury I had that time, I was throwing things and all. Shame! shame! shame! It turned out I lent it to my classmate.

The power of thinking: growth

"Today I should be able to sense a new beginning. This will most likely occur in my personal life, although I could see me transitioning from a professional role to a personal role, blurring the boundaries. I want growth (wherever it may be), be generous with my positive feedback. I should amp up my enthusiasm and toss it around liberally. Be an active participant in my own life, not just a contented spectator."
