"Hubby, I can now marry you in any of these 5 countries."

Let me present to you the first 5 countries that are now allowing and acknowledging same-sex marriages, in case you feel the need to pop-up the question to your Mr. Right and have the opportunity to fly yourselves there to exchange vows.

Here they are, in chronological order of legalization dates:

(1) Netherlands – On the 1st of April, 2001 they have introduced and called it as a “registered partnership,” an alternative to marriage conveying the same rights and duties most especially with respect to inheritance.

Religion: Diversified
Politics: Parliamentary representative democracy
Culture: Diverse as a reflection of regional differences and foreign influences.

(2) Belgium – On the 30th of January, 2003 they have recognized it but with some restrictions.
Religion: Roman Catholicism
Politics: Federal parliamentary representative democratic monarchy
Culture: An integral of European and Western culture

(3) Spain – On the 3rd of July, 2005 it had became officially legal and that it also included the rights to adopt.
Religion: Roman Catholicism
Politics: Parliamentary representative democratic constitutional monarchy
Culture: Culturally diverse heritage

(4) Canada – On the 20th of July, 2005 in virtue of the federal government, the interpretation of it was upheld by their Supreme Court.
Religion: No official religion
Politics: Constitutional monarchy
Culture: Influences from French, Aboriginal, United States and immigrant populations

(5) South Africa – On the 30th of November, 2006 granted more than just marriage but also (a) adoption, (b) financial cohabiting benefits and (c) recognize children born out of artificial insemination as legitimate.
Religion: Representation of ethnic and regional diversity of the nation
Politics: Federal parliamentary representative democratic republic
Culture: No single culture as it is so ethnically diverse

Now in case you’re wondering why I have included these three subjects; Religion, Politics and Culture is because they are the tell-tale signs if you can have the same in your country in the long run. So for the meantime until you don't have it yet, you can just buy that ring and plane tickets for both of you and fly to these countries. Congratulations and all you need now is a place to share your honeymoon. Oh that’s so sweet!

@ Kai

Oo nga based on what I see in Johan of Bel Ami's Blog it looks like inviting too.

Medyo nahaluan nga lang ng takot ko sa mga itim. Well I'm trying to get over this racism thing, eventually I'll feature black guys here para maging totally UCB na. Hahahah! As in United Colors of Benetton ito.

Thanks for both of you for dropping by.
